How to Curl Short Hair | Toni & Guy + Sophia Webster

Hey Loves!

I have been getting lots and lots of request to do a hair care and curling tutorial. Finally I can say today is the day!!!  Whenever I put effort into doing my hair I get complimented both in real life and on social media.  So I think I must be doing something right!

To hear that my hair looks so “healthy,” and to get questions on how I got my curls to look so good- makes me super happy!  I have put my poor hair through so many chemical treatments to maintain my new light blonde.  The sacrifice we do for apperance huh?  It’s really important for me to find good hair products that will help maintain my hair’s health and look.

As part of my job I get to try new products.  Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.  When I come across something I really like (regardless if was given to me or not), I just love to talk about it.  That’s one of the reasons why I love social media.  I love the fact that I can share things that I’m passionate about and things that help me to all my friends (you guys)!  Whenever I discover something that I love, I immediately want to share it.  I feel like there are lots of girls out there like myself that will appreciate some new tips and insights… especially when it comes to hair care.

Toni & Guy recently launched a collaboration with Sophia Webster.  Sophia Webster is an amazing shoe designer!  Her shoe designs are out of this world fun and perfect if you like have an adventurous sense of style.  If you guys follow my instagram LifeAnnStyle, you probably have seen me wearing my Sophia Webster shoes around New York Fashion Week.  I got so many compliments on them and people taking photos of my feet, it was hilarious.

Sophia Webster collaborated with Toni & Guy and designed the packaging.  To celebration the collaboration, Unilever sent over a few products for me to try out and enjoy.  Since I already have been using the Volume Plumping Whip and loved it, I was pretty excited to try other their other products.  Honestly I did not expect to really like all of the products.

I just got my roots touched up for you guys, so let’s get started!

Step 1: I like a clean start.  When I’m going to a big event or if I know I’ll be out all day, I usually start with a good wash.

It’s important to use a good shampoo + conditioner set that matches your hair type.  There are times when my head feels itchy and gross like I needed a second wash mid day because of the shampoo and conditioner I used.  It will take time (and a bit of money) to test out a few brands until you find something you like.  I normally wash my hair every other day and alternate brands when I do.  This way your hair and scalp will not become “trained” to the products.  I notice when I stick to one kind of shampoo, my hair gets too used to it and doesn’t feel as fresh and new after a wash.

I tested Toni & Guy shampoo/conditioner set and really like it.  I would have never guessed it would work so well on my hair if they had never let me try it out.  After using the set, my scalp feels clean for 2 days with no itch or tangle.  I have been so loyal to Tigi – S factor since this June and this product is just as good, if not better.  An extra bonus is that I can go to my closest Target and buy it for less then the Tigi set.

Step 2: With wet towel hair, I applied on the Volume Plumping Whip.  I like to start at the ends and work my way up to the roots with my hands.  This way the products will not weigh down your roots.

Step 3: Spray on some heat protectant and the blow dry your hair.  I like to flip my hair down and blow dry.  This will help enhance your volume.

Step 4: Now that your hair is dry.  Spray in a little flexible hairspray.  Section off your hair with a clip.

Step 5: Take a inch or less section of your hair and with a hot curling iron, start at the end and  curl in half way.  Hold for 5 seconds.  Then take the curling iron and start half way on the same strand but curl up toward the roots and hold for 10 seconds.  This will evenly distribute the heat along your hair strands.  Repeat this step but alternate your curls in different directions.  By doing so, your curls will look more effortless and natural.

Step 6: Spray in a little extra hairspray.  For extra hold and a shine, you can spritz on the Toni & Guy 3D Volumiser, which gives a little extra boost and shine to your hair.

Step 7:  Pull your fingers through your curls and loosen them up a little.  Then enjoy your day looking fabulous!

You don’t need to use these products I showed, as everyone has different hair types, but that is just what I recommend.  I love the style and the voluminous curls look great all though the day.
