DIY Volcanic Acne and Skin Cleansing Face Mask

Today, I’m going to show you how to make 2 recipes for a face mask that will help detoxify and rejuvenate your skin.  Why try it?  The active ingredients help to draw out bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of the skin.  It helps to fight acne and achieve a flawless complexion.  Both recipes are very effective, but I personally like to use the first one.

Pin Me!

For the 1st mask, I use Betonite clay, which is made of aged volcanic ash.  It is known for it’s healing power because of it’s cleansing and detoxifying properties.  This cleansing action helps to remove metal and other toxins from your pores while infusing your skin with beneficial minerals.  This mask is great for cleansing your skin and preventing and treating acne.

Next, is the activated charcoal.  Activated charcoal is not only use for skin, but is also used internally.  I am using a food grade charcoal to be in the safe side.  Activated charcoal is well known to absorb contaminants because of it’s unique properties.   Some people have used it on poisonous insect bites and hospitals have used it for patients who may or may not accidentally swallowed poisons.

I also recommend getting Tea Tree Oil as it is a natural disinfectant and a astringent that helps tighten your pores:

You can also use vitamin E as an extra boost for antioxidant benefits.  This will also help the mask keep a longer shelf life.

To make this, I used one tablespoon of activated charcoal.  Make sure you don’t use any metal utensils to measure and mix this. Plastic or wood is best. Next, take one equal amount of the betonite clay and mix the dry components together.  Now, for the liquids.  Take a couple drops of tea tree oil and 1/4 cup of boiled water that has been cooled or distilled water.  Pour water slowly into the ingredients as you mix. The betonite clay is very thick, so you may add a little more water, if you’d like, for a looser mix.  You want the consistency of a moisturizer.

You can store the mask mixture in a jar and keep at room temperature in a cool and dark place.  I recommend making a fresh jar each week to use.

If you do not have betonite clay, the second recipe for the mask we will be making uses ingredients that you may find right in your kitchen, such as honey, brown sugar, and plain natural yogurt or coconut cream.

To make this, mix 1 serving spoon of activated charcoal with 1 equal amount of brown sugar, 1-2 tablespoons of coconut natural (no sugar) coconut cream/yogurt, and a tablespoon of honey.

To use this, take a little t-spoon and massage it all over your face away from your eyes and mouth.  Wait for about 10-15 minutes for the mask to feel slightly dry, then rinse. The detoxifying and astringent effect can leave your skin feeling dry.  I suggest using a good moisturizer after rinsing with warm water. I like to use this mask twice a month and find it to be invigorating.

  2. I couldn’t see your braces until you mentioned it! I’m also going to get clear braces when I’m in middle school. the clear ones are good if you want to keep your teeth clean.

  3. oo, that looks soo cool, I would love to try it someday. I have really sensitive skin so I gotta be extra careful

    1. Hy Ann, I tried it at home an I must say that it work exactly the way you have described it here.. Thanks a lot for sharing this – Riya

  4. This looks so great I just tried the egg mask but I’m afraid of breaking out because there is so much Bacteria in eggs. I would love to try this but I have sensitive skin and I can’t even use tea tree oil on my face. Do you think this would hurt my skin?

  5. The tea tree oil is kinda harsh on sinsitive skin. Mine is really venerable from being a full time swimmer but if you have lavender essential oil it’s s great substitute. It’s soothing yet is powerful enough to kill those nasty bacteria. Just use one or two drops maximum.

  6. you’re never supposed to use metal spoons or metal mixing instruments when working with bentonite clay or charcoal as it makes the ingredients much less effective.

  7. Wow what a nice idea to keep healthy face always, thanks for share this with us.I just glad to be here and to discover this awesome post.
