Hi guys! Summer is coming and I need to get in beach body shape! Now, while regular exercise is a important part in losing weight, diet is just as if not even more important. It’s so easy to fall off the cart when changing your diet, especially when there are so many yummy treats. We recently moved to California and there is so much temptation! Boba teas, baked goods, yummy ice creams…mmm ice cream. But I digress, it was easy for enjoy the yummy treats, but the consequences afterwards on my waist line were regrettable. Anyhow, the meal that tends to knock us all off our diets are the snacks and breakfast. So today, I am going to show you some healthy breakfast and snack ideas! Want to eat clean and healthy? Read on…
Let’s get started with the Acai bowl!
Acai berries have taken up a lot of popularity in the past year as the premier super fruit. These Brazilian super berries are full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Brazilian natives discovered the healing properties of the acai berry thousands of years ago. They found it boosted their energy when consumed regularly. In addition, the combination of Omega fatty acids is super good for your hair and skin! The only problem with the Acai craze is the cost of it in smoothie shops. Acai Bowls and smoothies often cost more then $6-8 per serving. I am going to show you how to make it for under $3 per serving.
1-2 packages of frozen Acai Berry(I like using the Sambazon brand, it’s $4.50 for a 4 pack)
Organic Granola (Optional, I like using it for texture and crunch)
Dairy Free Milk(I like using almond milk. I’m not a fan of soy milk. I don’t like using dairy as it causes me to break out)
Fresh and Frozen Fruits (Frozen for the blender and fresh for topping)
Put all these yummy bits into the blender and blend using the pulse mode. You will need to scrape the stuff off the sides as its thick and difficult to blend. A beefy blender is a plus here.
After blending to a smooth consistency, use a spoon and dollop it out into a bowl. Top with two tablespoons of granola and slice up some fresh fruit to place on top and enjoy!
This is perfect for a breakfast or a snack anytime. Because it’s cold, it’s perfect for the summer.
Next up is a great pre or post workout snack.
After I workout, we normally have a protein shake, but if that’s not filling I make and apple or banana sandwich. These are grain free! Bananas are perfect for post workout as the potassium helps sooth aching muscles. Here goes!
A Banana or apple Organic Granola(Again, totally optional. You can replace with hemp seed, sunflower seeds etc.)
Peanut Butter (If allergic, there’s almond, sunflower and cashew butter) and optional, raisins
To prepare, peel the banana and cut lengthwise. With the apple, slice it like bread slices and then cut out the core.
Spread your favorite nut butter, sprinkle on granola, raisins or other seed for texture.
Finally, put the top half of the sandwich on and then NOM. Nom nom nom. So easy, so delicious.
Finally, is a fruit parfait.
This is perfect to make and store in the fridge for later. I like using Mason jars to make my parfait in, but you can really use any glass container like a tall cup.
Organic Yogurt (Greek, Coconut or Soy Yogurt. I’m not a fan of soy. The Greek yogurt is actually really good. I don’t break out eating it like I do for most other dairy products, possibly because of the enzymes and probiotics in it?)
Fresh sliced fruit Organic Granola or nuts for texture
First, take your clean container and layer the Yogurt, then fruit then granola. Drizzle on some honey and enjoy or save in the fridge for later.
