Every little girl that loves dressing up can agree with me when I say attending Fashion Week has aways been a fantasy. To see magnificent works of art sashaying down the runway in flowing gowns, intricate details, and well tailored garments was only a figure of my imagination. The reality of being able to attend a world renown event and walking in the same rooms with the designers, photographers, and even famous people in every corner is still soaking into my memories.
Fashion week and the fashion industry can be seen in 3 ways. First, superficial – which is very true in many ways. There are those who come for the glamour and to look and feel important. Second is the business. Retail fashion alone is a 150 billion+ dollar industry. Think about it, when you’re feeling upset…what’s the “fun” solution? Ding! Retail therapy! Finally is the art. Back in the day, there were the tailors and couturier for the wealthy. All though technology has taken us above to advanced levels, there are still the designs that we can very much appreciate. Just sitting or standing to view the craftsmanship puts me in such a nostalgic mood. It reminds me very much of high school and college. I had the greatest time creating and crafting up garments. I cared about nothing else except for creating. Designing and creating something into life was something I wanted to do. I don’t know if I can still fulfill that goal as life happens and we sometime get side tracked. Hopefully it’ll become real like Fashion Week had become for me. For now I can still dream, except this time I have models in beautiful clothing to remind me to keep chasing my dreams.
